Adding Items to a Custom Instrument

STEP BY STEP

1. Select the Find Items button.

2. Define Search Criteria
When you select the Find Items button, you will access the Add Items to Custom Instrument screen.  Many instruments and their corresponding items are available for us from the Assessment Center public library.  The default search results are all public instruments. You may want to narrow the list of instruments by searching for instruments using the criteria below:
Study: You can select to see items included other studies.  Items will be displayed within an instrument.  Note that you will only be able to view instruments with public status or instruments from studies in which you are a team member.   Use the dropdown menu to select a Study. The default is All Public.
Type: Choose from Item Bank/CAT (Computer Adaptive Testing), Short Form, or All. The default is All.
Domain: Choose from instrument domains (e.g. Fatigue, Pain) or All.  Note that you can only select one domain at a time.  If you want to search multiple domains, you will need to conduct multiple searches or specify all. The default is All.

In order for an instrument to come up in the results of a search, its status must be Administered or Public. Under Development instruments will not appear.

3. Click the Show Results button.

4. Check the box next to each instrument or item you want to include in your study.
When you see an instrument of interest, you can click the checkbox next to its name to add all its items to your instrument.

Or, to see the items associated with a particular instrument, click on the plus sign in the box next to its name. The items will display. You can select specific items by clicking on the checkboxes next to the item ID.

NOTE: You may check multiple boxes.

5. Click the Add to Instrument button.
You will see a green confirmation message that your item(s) have been added to the designated custom instrument.

NOTE: This button is in two places: at the top of the instruments list and at the bottom of the list.

Uploading Item Translations
You have the ability to upload translations of items in the language you wish to use during data collection.  To begin the translation process, click on the Upload Translations button.  This action will display a Language box on the Instrument Detail page. Within the Language box you will click on an Export button to export the instrument’s current items in a translation file spreadsheet.  Item translations should be entered into this spreadsheet and imported back into Assessment Center by clicking on the Import button within the Language section of the Instrument Detail page.

Once you have uploaded item translations, you will be able to select the language in which you would like the study to be administered on the Language sub-menu tab within the Set-up tab.
